What is NR 20?

What changed with the NR 20 updates?

The latest updates to NR 20, made by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, establish the following changes:

  • Annex II of NR 09 – which addressed measures to Control Occupational Exposure to Benzene in Gas Stations – became part of NR 20, with the creation of Annex IV;
  • Annex VI also has an obligation related to the implementation of a vapor recovery system, to direct them to the gas station’s own fuel tank or to vapor treatment equipment;
  • Risk analyzes have been simplified, meaning there is no longer a need to produce an engineer’s report for the installation of certain commercial establishments;
  • The provisions of NR 20 with international safety standards were aligned, mainly in relation to the existence and quantity of storage tanks for flammable liquids inside buildings and the way in which flammable liquids are transported.
