SMART CYCLE
STORAGE AND TREATMENT EQUIPMENT
ALLOW THE REUSE OF GRAY AND RAINWATER
Gone are the days when cisterns were only used to store water and were restricted to little corners, the more hidden the better. Combining environmental awareness with economy, the Water Reuse Kit, from Tecnotri, for example, offers practical installation and adapts to small spaces. “The equipment requires low investment and little maintenance. The design of the cisterns also does not require them to be buried, integrating them harmoniously into the environments”, says Tecnotri’s commercial director, Clairton Bidtinger da Silva. The system allows greywater and rainwater to be collected, making it possible to chlorinate it after filtering leaves and particles. The uses for this “recycled” water are diverse. “In addition to cleaning sidewalks and vehicles, you can water plants, flush toilets and, when connecting the cistern to the washing machine, reuse it in a new cycle, such as to wash shoes or carpets, for example”, suggests Silva.

The equipment requires a low investment, especially considering the savings generated on the water bill. With capacities ranging from 150 to 1000 L, Tecnotri kits can be purchased for prices ranging from R$658 to R$2,858, on average. “Taking into account variables such as rainfall rates and storage capacities, it is possible to save up to 50% on the amount paid on the invoice”, says the director.

In regions where rainfall is abundant, these systems can be even more advantageous. The Chove Chuva Filter, from Hidrologia – Ideias Sustentáveis, for example, has a treatment to eliminate microorganisms and balance pH. “After passing through the filter, the water is stored in a cistern and can be reused not only in washing machines, but also for watering, bathing, preparing food, washing dishes and even brushing teeth”, says Hidrologia sales manager, Vinícius Ramires de Oliveira. He points out, however, that because it comes from rain, the water is unsuitable for drinking.

Another characteristic of water reuse and storage systems is the safety of the reservoirs, equipped to prevent the proliferation of Aedes aegypti and other mosquitoes. “Tecnotri has UV14 and antimicrobial additives, which extend the useful life of the product, also reducing the proliferation of fungi and bacteria”, says Silva. The Chove Chuva Filter has limestone stones, responsible for regulating the acidity of the water, and chlorinating tablets, which require periodic changes. According to Oliveira, the only prerequisite for installation is that the residence must be up to 150 m2. The investment is R$ 688. “The most important thing is that the cistern is connected to the gutter, so that it captures the greatest amount of water possible”, advises Silva. Just like that.
